The year 2008 saw a most impressive output from the CVR C&W department. Headed by Brian Mullen, MPD, with his team of up to eighteen part time volunteers, they have managed to progress six coaches and one truck through the coach shed.

The main renovation project was the two VEP coaches, all windows where removed, cleaned and replaced with new sealant, most of the seating was replaced/renewed, all internal walls renewed, as was most of the flooring, finally all was washed down, seating cleaned, and outside the paint work was rubbed down, and spray painted BR BLUE.

Work on all the other coaches was a full service, which entailed lifting off of the bogies, greasing, oiling the turn table, checking the brake shoes, and the wheel hubs, and touching up the paint work, where required. The truck entailed new flooring, both ends, and the four drop doors, was then primed, two under coats, and two top coats in brown.

In October 2007 the BR 13236 MK 1 TYPE FK coach (seen above) built 1959 at Swindon, was delivered to the siding next to the C&W
works, ( it came from our storage sidings at Oakamoor, ) to be cleared inside of all debris, it entered the works on 6th March 2008, it left the works to be sand blasted at the beginning of May 2008, it was then put on hold, due to other pressing work. On the first week of February 2009, it came back in, and is the main on going project for 2009 (see below).

The FK has been completely gutted with the intention of not only renovating it , but converting the structure into a 1st Class Open. Although coaches with First Class compartments would be authentic for a heritage railway, they have their drawbacks. Open style coaching stock is preferable as it gives a better view for passengers and a easier entry and exit for the less able.

April 2010 - The restoration of the Mk I has proceeded in fits and starts due to other projects. The internal panelling is well advanced and the junction boxes have been fitted to more than half the coach for the reading lights that will be installed on each table. Most of the ceiling has been insulated and the panels fitted.

11th June 2010 - FO now has all the roof linings and side panels in place, just some small infill panels need fitting. This is another job where it takes hours and you have a problem seeing what's been done!
