Steam Gala
The Churnet Valley Railway will be holding a Steam
Gala on Saturday the 25th and Sunday the 26th of February 2012.
The locomotives running during the gala subject
to availability will include:
- Visiting Black 5 No. 45379 courtesy of the
Mid Hants Railway.
- Black 5 No. 44767 George Stephenson.
- USATC S160 No. 6046 making its debut in
preservation and also its debut in the UK, this will be the first
opportunity to see and ride behind this locomotive.
- Large Prairie No. 5199 making is final appearance
before returning to the Llangollen Railway following a 3-year visit
to the CVR.
- Plus an additional visiting locomotive that
we should be able to announce shortly.
There will be an intensive passenger service in
operation that will feature the 27 mile round trip from Froghall
- Cauldon Lowe - Froghall. For anyone that has not ridden on the
line to Cauldon Lowe this offers the chance to hear and see the
locomotives working hard as the gradients on this 8 mile section
of line range from 1 in 40 - 1 in 61.
Other features during the gala weekend will include:
- Double headed Black 5's to Cauldon Lowe,
- Banking on trains to Cauldon Lowe,
- The freight train will do two round trips per day from Froghall
Junction to Leekbrook,
- Locomotive Workshop and Carriage shed open for visits.
Further information including ticket prices and
timetable including locomotive diagrams will be released in the
New Year.
