The
NSRC's Wickham Trolley completed a test run of over twelve miles
on 12th June. The Trolley has spent just under a year out of service completing
repairs and chasing faults that were preventing its smooth running.
To see a video of the test run click here Please note the Wickham trolley will not now be running during the Velocipede rally, due to operational difficulties for the Velocipedes |

On 3rd June ex LMS 8F 2-8-0 No. 8624 arrived at the CVR by road from the East Lancashire Railway. The engine is expected to be running on 5th & 6th June. It is also planned to run at the November 2010 Steam Gala as well as the February 2011 Steam Gala. It had been at East Lanc's Railway for their annual 1940 Wartime Weekend.
8624 is the Only surviving Southern-built example, withdrawn in the 1960s and stored at Barry Scrap Yard. It was brought back in to service in spring 2009 at Peak Rail. It carries a fictional LMS Crimson Lake livery.

On the 10th May the CVR was reconnected with Leekbrook Junction and the lines to Stoke and Caldon Low. Pictured left is Steve Woolliscroft tightening the last bolt in what was a historic "Golden Spike" moment witnessed by the CVR PW Group and the other CVR Volunteers involved in the work. Reconnection to the junction is the first step towards allowing works trains onto the Caldon Low line to be operated by Moorland and City Railways (MCR). Line clearance work is now in hand using a Road/Rail Flail Machine (pictured right). MCR Commercial Director David Kemp said that the line between Leekbrook and Caldon Low was recently inspected and they had been "pleasantly surprised" by the condition of the track and infrastructure. The CVR's Carriage & Wagon Works under Brian Mullen have given a much needed and superb face lift to our Wine & Dine Train. Following repairs and a re-spray in December the Moorlander Coach appeared in new livery and with new curtains ready for its first run on the 12th December 2009. The Kitchen Coach then underwent repairs and was re-sprayed in March 2010 before reappearing for its first run on the 3rd April 2010. We have to thank Robert & Ian Davenport who were responsible for the hardest part, which was rubbing down and the re-spray of both coaches. Both units were superbly finished off by our sign writer and can be seen right in use for a private function on a very sunny April Saturday. |

The CVR Souvenir Shop has been
moved to Kingsley & Froghall Station. Its new refurbished
premises are 60% larger than the shop at Cheddleton, enabling more stock
to be held and to be better displayed. The refurbishment has been carried out by the Civil's team and funded by the NSRC. During the last week shop volunteers, under the guidance of Shop Manager Linda Westerman, have been working flat out to clean up the shop fittings and put out all the stock in time for this weekends Steam Gala. Being located at Froghall takes better advantage of the operational timetable, allowing all passengers at least fifteen minutes to visit the shop and make purchases from its wide range of souvenirs, gifts and toys. |

2010 Timetable Competition |

On Monday 11th January the CVR's new administration offices will open at Kingsley & Froghall Station. The new offices will be on the first floor of the station building. The first floor was initially let as a holiday flat but was found not to be economically viable. Now the former main bedroom will be the main office, the small bedroom will be the accounts office and the lounge will continue to be used as a board room, making full use of this excellent and modern facility. The CVR will be using Froghall as its official address from now on whilst the NSRC will continue to be based at Cheddleton Station. Phone numbers remain unchanged for the present. The former office at Cheddleton will now be refurbished and brought back into use as authentic waiting room facility. |
The
2010 Timetable Cover Competition was won by David Gibson despite close
competition from fourteen other photographers. David's photograph which
now appears on the 2010 Timetable cover, was chosen anonymously by three
judges from the commercial team. David met all the challenging criteria set down for the cover photograph. The competition will be run again for the 2011 Timetable and will be open to everyone, full details to follow. |
