STOP PRESS:

We are delighted to announce that L.M.R. 0-6-0 'Jinty' tank No. 47279, which has been hauling some of Santa Specials, will now be staying with us until our Winter Steam Gala in February.

The CVR wish to pass on their thanks to the K&WVR for kindly agreeing to extend the locomotive's visit to our line.

At the The National Railway Heritage Awards today the Churnet Valley Railway won the National Express East Coast Volunteers Award for Kingsley & Froghall Station Up Platform and Waiting Shelter. The award was Presented by Paul Atterbury to Bob McDonnell. The NSRC funded project was joint first with GCR in the category.

A Wickham Type 17 Trolley DE 950021 has been purchased by the NSRC from K&WVR for use by the P-Way team. It is powered by a J.A.P engine but as the trolley has not run in 25 years it requires some restoration. It comes complete with its own turntable enabling access to a short section of track positioned at right angles to the running line.

SCHOOL HALF TERM extra running day

As the Autumn half term is a week later this year we will now be running an additional Steam Service on Wednesday 29th October. The advertised service on Wednesday 22nd October will now be run by a DMU.

24th September 2008 -

L.M.R. 0-6-0 'Jinty' tank No. 47279 arrives at Froghall carrying a shed code 19c which was Rotherham (Canklow).

This loco is on loan to CVR until early November whilst the S160 is taking part in galas at the WSR and the K&WVR.

22nd September 2008 - The five special Shareholder DMU services to Oakamoor Loop on Sunday 21st September were a great success and a historic occasion for the railway. The weather was on our side and the scenery on the previously hidden section of track looked at it's best. It would have been even more special if the trains had been allowed to venture a few yards further to the sand sidings but the HM Railway Inspectorate were not able to give agreement to this due to the poor state of the track. Something to look forward to in the future then!

Thanks go to the staff and volunteers who helped organise and man the event and of course to all the Shareholders who participated. Their continued generosity with donations and support of the on train raffle is greatly appreciated. Details of the prize winners are given below.

21st September 2008 - First Oakamoor Passenger Train !

The first service from Oakamoor in over 20 years approaches Kingsley & Froghall Station with a Shareholders Special at 11:42.on 21st September 2008.

9th September 2008 - New CVR 2009 Calendar for Sale

For the second year running we are pleased to be able to announce that we have produced another CVR calendar. It is A4 size and contains twelve new photographs of the CVR all taken this year. It will retail at £6 which is the same price as last year and be on sale in Cheddleton Souvenir Shop from this coming weekend.

18th August 2008 - 75 Year Old Stanier Mogul to visit CVR !

We are pleased to confirm that ex LMS Class 5 2-6-0 No. 2968 built in 1934 is the first gala locomotive to be confirmed for the nostalgic LMS Celebration Gala planned for February 2009.

More details will be available as locomotives are confirmed. Along similar lines to our very popular Green Arrow events earlier in the year we will be offering photo charters and footplate experience courses during 2968’s stay with us.

The 1st ever public service to Oakamoor Loop will operate as part of the Scenic Railcar Weekend.
- Plus 1st passing of DMU tail loads in preservation
- Plus 1st demonstration run of Sandite Car ADB977554
- Plus free bus link from National rail at Stoke-on-Trent

The Children's Fun Week gets off to a very colourful start at Froghall despite the weather. Seen right are Carlo the Clown and friends, between Punch and Judy shows, looking on as the Class 37 waits with the 12:27 to Cheddleton.

4th August 2008 - New Arrival on Platform 1

Congratulations go to CVR Volunteers Andrew and Lisa Sollis on the arrival of their new baby Alex James who was born last Friday.

Alex is born into a family of working CVR volunteers and is seen here on his very first visit to to Froghall Station with his Dad, Mum and proud Grand Parents Ernest and Hazel.

7th July 2008 - Our first Children's Fun and Activity Day took place on Sunday 6th July and was such a success it will be repeated on August 9th 10th 11th & 13th August. Click here for details.

The CVR Steamers Fun Day Summer Special enabled children to meet "Roger the Diesel Engine", "Stanley the Steam Engine", "The General" & "Delilah the DMU".

5th July 2008 - 5197 The S&T Engineer Wine & Dine Special travels through Cheddleton on the first Saturday in July, watched by waiting passengers enjoying refreshments from Cheddleton Station Cafe.

Drive the 4-VEP and the Class 73 in Push-Pull mode on:

31st May 2008 - Peter Green NSRC Chairman unveils the new name of the Janus Class Shunting Loco "Roger H Bennett" in a ceremony in the bay platform at Cheddleton whilst Tony Hancock CVR Chairman watches on.

The loco which is sporting its new NCB livery then hauled the VEP on the 15:52 timetabled service to Froghall. More pictures here.

Just confirmed, 37075 is to be repainted in "BR Blue white stripe with Kingfisher" livery, a first for preservation!

Also confirmed Class 20 D8001 as a visitor for the gala, meaning we now have 3 visitors: D9016, 73138 & D8001.

Diesel Electric "Janus" class loco arrives:

Seen here today in the yard at Cheddleton, this loco has been purchased by the NSRC from Ribble rail at Preston Docks.

Once it is fully commissioned and repainted in suitable livery the engine will be renamed Roger H Bennett.
