The Churnet Valley Railway is a heritage railway, centrally located in North Staffordshire and which is available for your railway vehicle and equipment testing and training requirements.

The line is approximately 7 ½ miles long of which approximately 51/4 miles is currently passed for passenger operation. The route was a former secondary main line (Macclesfield to Uttoxeter) and so enjoys the benefits of a 25 Tonne axle loading, easy gradients (maximum 1 in 201) and gentle curves. In addition, H.M.R.l have indicated that a speed limit of 45 mph during authorised testing and training operations is acceptable. Higher speeds may be possible upon application.

The line features the full range of overbridges, underbridges, a public level crossing, cuttings, embankments and a double track bore tunnel of 531 yards length. Track is wood and concrete sleepered 95lb bullhead and wood and concrete sleepered 109/113 lb flat bottom. Of particular attraction for discreet testing is the isolated location of the line which has little public access at the lineside for much of its length. The line is single track on a double track formation (making for easy trackside access) and has run around loops at each end and at Kingsley and Froghall station.

Workshop and maintenance facilities are available on line with craneage up to a 76 Tonne diesel rail breakdown crane available if required. On line stock includes air and vacuum braked wagons (including track maintenance vehicles such as, Catfish, Dogfish and Shark) air and vacuum braked MK I and II coaching stock and mainline diesels (dual braked) and steam locomotives. Operation and maintenance of the railway is to current Railtrack group standards wherever possible or applicable and all our staff are fully trained and passed out.

The Railway has an excellent road/rail unloading facility situated off the A52 trunk road at Froghall.

Recent use of the line has seen the testing of electronic 'look out' protection systems in the tunnel and the training of operators on road/rail 'flail' equipment in vegetation clearance activities.
