'Off the Rails'; what goes on away from the trains

The railway isn't just about trains. During the course of the year the CVR puts on a number of themed special event days. This page hopefully gives some idea of what to expect if you come to visit us on such a day.
A favourite annual event is "Station at War". This year it was felt necessary to evacuate the children to the countryside...
The staff and many of the visitors entered into the 1940s spirit.
The railway was even graced with a visit from the Prime Minister! (Not the current incumbent, I hasten to add.)
The US heavy artillery was dug in at Consall;
whilst the Germans had invaded Leek Brook.
The Cheddleton Players did their best to keep up morale on the Home Front with their "Wartime Showcase".
And the Home Guard stopped anyone from stealing the locomotive. They don't like it up 'em you know Captain...
Thomas the Tank Engine is another favourite visitor to the Railway. Here Thomas' driver treats him to a spot of oil.
A diesel gave rides in the station yard...
...and amongst it all the Fat Controller found time to sit down for a moment.
The Ghost Train event, held as usual on the last Saturday in October, featured a special guest appearance from a Mr. S. Todd, who was selling hot pies as well as providing haircuts...
The station master lost his head - literally!
This couple were on their way to a wedding - or from a funeral...
Catering was supplied by Cauldron and Co.
And the Cheddleton Players' contribution to proceedings was "Saturday Night Omen".
November 2001 saw a famous boy wizard visiting the railway. His own train brought him from Platform 9 3/4 at Froghall.
Witches, wizards and warlocks abounded on a day of magic.
