Victorian Sunday

12th March 2006

Join us on 12th March for our Victorian Sunday, for the official opening of the recently re-instated 'up' platform at Consall that so famously borders the Cauldon Canal and for the extensive heritage signalling scheme and restored NSR signal box. This virtually completes the accurate and total recreation of Consall Station and grounds over the last eight years from a totally derelict 'brown field' site, containing nothing but the waiting shelter overhanging the canal, to what you see below. Please come and savor this magnificent achievement for yourselves and mingle with staff and volunteers in authentic Victorian costume.

All three stations will be open and a full steam service running as the day will also be a celebration of the recent prestigious Ian Allen Publishing award given for Consall Station and grounds, Kinsgley & Froghall station and the Consall signalling scheme.

Special guests will include former Blue Peter presenter Simon Groom who first visited the Churnet Valley Railway back in 1983 when the BBC TV programme featured the transfer of the old signal box from Clifton, near Ashbourne. The box now forms part of the meticulous restoration project at Consall.

Please board the trains at either Kingsley & Froghall or Cheddleton station as no vehicle access is available to Consall.

Timetable 'E' will be in operation throughout the day.
