The Churnet Valley Railway is ecstatic to announce that it is the receiver of not one, but three awards – just as the operating company continues to celebrate its Silver Jubilee Year!
The first award received is a TripAdvisor® Certificate of Excellence. Now in its seventh year, this achievement celebrates hospitality businesses that have earned great traveller reviews on the web-based TripAdvisor forum over the past year. Certificate of Excellence recipients include restaurants, accommodations and attractions located all over the world that have continually delivered a quality customer experience.
The next award comes courtesy of Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, who after a stringent inspection have decided to uphold Froghall Tearooms 5* Food and Hygiene Rating. This comes as a huge success following the Kingsley and Froghall Station Tearoom’s change in management for 2017, with a new catering team taking over earlier in the Spring. This top food hygiene rating is only given to establishments that consistently meet a strict benchmark in ensuring food preparation, serving standards and cleanliness is maintained throughout the whole process of catering provisions.
And the final, and biggest award, comes courtesy of VisitEngland who inspect tourist attractions across Britain in order to help develop visitor destinations and promote Britain worldwide. After undertaking a “blind” inspection to the line in June, they have accredited the Churnet Valley Railway with VE’s “Quality Assurance” after scoring the visitor experience with a 79% rating using over 200 pre-set checks of the whole site.
To receive just one of these awards is a credit to all of our staff, the vast majority of whom are volunteers, and whose passion for the travel of yesteryear maintains the operation of heritage services along our railway line between Froghall and Leek Brook Junction that once formed part of the North Staffordshire Railway's Churnet Valley Line.
But to receive all three, in the year the operating company celebrates its Silver Jubilee is unprecedented for the line, and goes to show just what our staff are able to achieve as a team. These awards have arrived as the railway gets stuck its main summer season, with trains operating every weekend, Monday and Wednesday until September. All of our services are staffed by volunteers, so if you've ever wanted to get involved now is the time to come down and be a part of this award-winning attraction. Further information on volunteering can be found on our Volunteer Pages.
