Welcome to the Churnet Valley Railway...

More than just a railway...

The Churnet Valley Railway takes you on a journey back to the classic days of railway travel on a rural line that passes through beautiful countryside known as Staffordshire's "Little Switzerland".

Our picturesque stations offer lots of interest with a complete range of visitor facilities, and there's plenty more to see and enjoy along the way.

In addition to the 11 mile return journey along the valley between Kinglsey & Froghall station and Leekbrook, there's a taste of contrasting moorland scenery on the 9 mile round trip along the Cauldon branch to Ipstones Loop.

With a programme of special events, dining dates, venue hire and education facilities, we think you will agree that we are more than just a railway!

The Railway operates thanks to the army of willing volunteers who are members of the North Staffordshire Railway Company (1978) Ltd, the charity which rescued Cheddleton Station nearly 40 years ago and helped establish both the railway and a heritage collection.

We also work alongside Moorland & City Railways with whom we are currently planning to re-open the line into the nearby market town of Leek, roughly 1 mile North of Leekbrook. This will connect the CVR with the biggest town in the Moorlands, and has been highlighted as an important part of Staffordshire Moorland's District Council's Masterplan for developing tourism in the area.
